Prezi is a cloud-based productivity service that creates presentations unlike anything else. Instead of a sequence of slides or an animated video, Prezi presentations zoom in and out of a vast single canvas, first focusing in on a block of text or a set of images or videos, then flying across the canvas to other text or images. You always have the option to zoom out to see the entire canvas or in to see any detail you choose. The effect is surprisingly dynamic and engaging, and a Prezi presentation can bring the viewer into the action in ways that ordinary slide-after-slide presentations in PowerPoint and its clones can't. You can even use Prezi as a collaborative-brainstorming tool.
Google Lit Trips are free downloadable files that mark the journeys of characters from famous literature on the surface of Google Earth. By combining literary road trips with the interactive technology and satellite imagery of Google Earth, it like putting students right in the back seat of an unfolding journey. At each location along the journey there are place-marks with pop-up windows containing a variety of resources including relevant media, thought provoking discussion starters, and links to supplementary information about the real world references made in that particular portion of the story. To follow a Google lit trip, start by downloading the free Google Earth program. Make sure to visit the the Google Lit Trip website for great lit trips sources.
Educators are increasingly turning to technology to improve their teaching, communication and organization skills. Having a web page to use to deliver and organize content and make it easy for students to work, communicate, and stay connected outside of class hours is essential in this modern age. One free application for creating web sites for courses that is hugely popular with teachers is Weebly.com. It doesn’t get much easier than Weebly – its free, fast, and very user friendly, but also powerful enough to meet sophisticated needs. Cui-Ting's Weebly |
